@ Jason Beaird, Yep, I totally agree. It all kinda depends on how you play. We’ve come to Gowalla from the geocaching world. People participate in geocaching for different rewards. (Some for the hikes to remote places, some to be the FTF first-to-find, etc) I agree that a tool “showing where all the roadrunners” are might take the challenge out of the game…. lol, but then again there could be a race to go find the item. (pssst… trade you a Field Notes Pin for a Gopher?) Rock on!

Thanks Ben, you rock! I too had thought about ways of finding specific items that are floating around in the local spots, but think it might make the game a little unfair. That desire to find all the items is what keeps me addicted to the game.

@Jason – Fixed! Missing icons are now sorted alphabetically rather than by Gowalla’s internal ID system.

@Christen – This is a web app so won’t be submitted to iTunes. Who knows if there is a native app on the cards though

@Joescales – Glad to hear you’re enjoying the app! A lot of people have asked about searching for a particular icon and I’m currently working on a way to balance what could be perceived with cheating with server cost (it’s difficult to parse every spot in the game for icons). However, stay tuned as something is bound to appear shortly.

I’m going to be running a “12 days of Gowalla Tools Christmas” with all kinds of new tools emerging in one festive month so look out for that – it’ll be starting on December 1st.

We LOVE the app in San Francisco. Ok.. I’m going to ask a question that I know others have asked …. Is there a way to see WHERE a specific icon is now located? (I’m looking for icon X … is there a way to show where they are RIGHT now.. and not just where they usually spawn?) (Would that make it too easy and take some of the challenge out of the game? .. I’m not sure.

@Jason – I’m glad you like the app. Yes at present it is using the default item sort order as it was easier to do it that way but I’ll add in alphabetised sorting shortly.

I was playing with the app today and noticed that you’re using the same sort order as the Gowalla site (desc by ID?). Would it be possible to reorder the list alphabetically, or to provide some way to switch between the default order and alpha? It would make it a lot faster to find which items you still need while out and about.

Wow! I just recently started vaulting items to get my missing count down. This app will help a lot. Very, very well done!
